Bagneres de Luchon, locally referred to as Luchon, is an authentic mountain town in the French Pyrenees. Sitting at 630 metres in a beautiful valley surrounded by magnificent mountains on 3 sides, Luchon at the heart of the Pyrenees in a majestical setting with 13 of the Pyrenees most famous peaks (including Aneto the highest peak in the Pyrenees at 3,404m) forming a panoramic backdrop.

 

This lively holiday destination nestled against the border with Spain attracts hikers, spa-goers, skiers, white water sports enthusiasts, mountain-bikers and road cycling tourists throughout the year.

 

With stunning scenery, magnificent architecture, and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, Luchon is a popular destination for all age groups.

 

Whether taking on the challenges of the famous Tour de France cols, or hitting the snow covered slopes at Luchon-Superbagneres there are a wide range of other activities to enjoy during your visit

 

Summer in Bagneres de Luchon...

With a summer season that extends from mid-May to Mid-October, the mountains of the Luchonnaise and the Central Pyrenees become the home of road cyclists from across the globe. With all but the highest cols being open in May, the end of spring is a great time to ride and enjoy the warm sunshine and the natural beauty of snow-capped mountains. The roads are generally quieter allowing riders to enjoy the view with the worry of traffic.


As summer progresses and the snow disappears from the mountain tops, the heat arrives and the buzz in and around Luchon increases with the influx of visitors wishing to explore and enjoy this beautiful corner of the Pyrenees. Throughout the summer there are a range of cycling events both professional and amateur that take place in and around Luchon - with a number of tough and challenging cyclosportives to test even the most hardened competitor.


Autumn is a popular time for cyclists in Luchon, especially with clients from the Southern hemisphere, once again enjoying quieter roads, warm sunshine and generally clear skies. September provides cyclists with the opportunity to take part in one of the final cyclosportives of the season, where historically temperatures can still reach 30 degrees.

Winter in Luchon-Superbagneres...

With a winter season that normally runs from the beginning of December until the first week of April Luchon continues for provide a host of activities for the keen skier and snowboarder alike. Not only are we blessed with a ski resort on our doorstep, along with neighbouring Peyragdes and the Spanish gem Baqueira Beret, but there are also a number of post ski or alternative sporting options for our clients to also enjoy.

The perfect way to wind down after a day on the slopes - Luchon's naturally heated sulfer caves are unique in Europe

Apres Ski...

As Villa Portillon is right in the heart of Luchon, everything literally is on your doorstep. Shops remain open until 7pm each night providing the idea opportunity to buy the odd gift for friends and family back home. There are a wide range of restaurants providing local, traditional and international cuisine for guests to try out on our day off. And of course there are some great bars, all within a few minutes from our front door.
